2008 CALENDER OF EVENTS
20 - 21 July
Engineering Camp
Youth Career Services in partnership with local engineers across our region will be hosting a “Is Engineering 4 U?” camp at the Deniliquin Four Post Youth Camp. There is a cap of 20 students for this camp and they will spend quality time with industry mentors working on a hands on project over the two days. The students will also have the opportunity to discuss education pathways via university or TAFE. Any student who is interested in Engineering should contact their Career Advisor for more information.

Murray River Culinary Challenge
Students completion hospitality as a VET subject in schools or at TAFE’s will be given the opportunity to compete in the Murray River Culinary Challenge. This week will see all schools involved run their school level competition to identify competitors for the next level of competition.

Brick and Block Laying – Balranald Central School
Balranald Central School in conjunction with the Brick and Block laying Training Association and Youth Career Services will be completing a project on the school grounds. 12 students will be involved and a local industry representative will guide the students throughout the project. They will cover topics such as OHS, reading plans, work readiness skills etc. Stay tuned for pictures of the final project.....

Junior Step to the Future Workshops - Deniliquin

Barham High School will be hosting a “Get that Job Day” for students in year 10. Youth Career Services has been able to assist in providing a guest speaker for the workshop. Students will receive information on Deportment and Posture, General Grooming and Presentation for Interviews and Preparation for Job Interviews.

Murray River Culinary Challenge Grand Final
This will be held in Mildura and see all the regional winners attend to take the MRCC trophy home. It has become a very prestigious event which demands a very high standard from the competitors. Each year a success story seems to follow the grand final with at least one competitor being offered ongoing employment.

Visual & Performing Arts – Charles Sturt University (CSU), Wagga Wagga Campus
Students across the region have been invited to attend an open day at CSU to showcase Acting for Stage & Screen, Animation and Visual Effects, Design for Theatre and Television, Fine Arts, Jewellery, Graphic Design & Photography. Students will be divided into groups and will rotate through interactive activities showcasing courses available within the Visual & Performing Arts Faculty. If you are interested you should contact your Career Advisors as soon as possible.
