Barham Brick and Block Laying Program

As part of the Australian Brick & Block Laying Training Foundation initiative schools have been invited to undergo a week long program that sees 12 students involved in building a brick structure either in their school or community. Barham High School have been the first school in our area to undertake the program and they chose to do an area of paving in the school as their project.

The students covered a work readiness session held by Youth Career Services prior to commencing the brick laying. During the actual project they learnt how to plan and organise a project, how to read and interpret plans, Occupational Health and Safety Requirements, Manual handling and laying bricks and blocks.

The aim was to give students hands on experience in the Masonry Industry leading to  them considering Bricklaying/Blocklaying as a career choice! I understand all students had a very enjoyable week!
